Presenting Your Work

Make an Outline

If you used a graphic organizer, this step is easy. Just click on the outline view of the organizer and voila! Read over the outline, make any necessary changes, then you're ready to start writing.

  • Start with the thesis or purpose statement as an introduction. Briefly state each of your arguments or subtopics.
  • Include a paragraph / section for each argument or subtopic. This is where the research comes in.
  • Finish up with a conclusion that restates your arguments or subtopics.

Here's an example of an outline for a grade 10 history essay on World War I.

  • Thesis: Canada's most significant role in WWI was at the Battle of Vimy Ridge.
    • It was the first time all the Canadian troops worked and fought together.
    • It was the first allied victory of the war.
    • It resulted in Canada gaining a reputation as a "nation among nations".

Once you have your outline, it's time to start creating the final product.
