Plagiarism 101 - Huron's Policy

Consequences of Plagiarism

The penalties of plagiarism will be based on the grade of the course.

Grades 9 & 10

  • Redo the assignment - either the same topic or a different topic, within a suitable time frame as decided by the teacher.
  • Multiple offences will be tracked by Vice Principals and increased consequences will apply.

Grade 11

  • First offence - redo the assignment, usually a different topic, within a suitable time frame as decided by the teacher.
  • Second offence, a mark of 0 will be assigned.

Grade 12

  • A mark of 0 will be assigned for any instance of plagiarism.

Individual teachers will point out areas of specific concern. Students are encouraged to consult teachers in case of doubt.

Plagiarism and cheating should be distinguished from cooperation and collaboration. Often students will be permitted or expected to work on assignments collectively. This is encouraged so long as it is clearly understood whose work is being presented.
