Department of Modern & International Languages
| Teachers have made it a priority to seek authentic experiences
of both language and culture, for the students, in our department.
To that end, on October 12, students of the grade 10 class of German
traveled to Kitchener, Waterloo to experience Bingeman’s “Oktoberfest”.
They enjoyed the Juno Award winning Romeros band, real German “um
pah pah” music and even some polka dancing. All students participated
in the dancing and enjoyed the “Wurst, Sauerkraut” and
“Apfel Strudel“ too! Our department extends “vielen
Dank” to Herr Ludwig, of the technology department, for chaperoning
our students, at this cultural event. On May 29, the Italian for Travel
class traveled to Little Italy, in Toronto. Students will experience
a great day of Italian Trattorias, mocha frappacinos, “pizzelles”
and more. In semester one, the Italian for Travel class also hosted
its own “Trattoria” for the teachers of Huron Heights.
Teachers even learned how to speak some Italian at this delectable
display of students’ talents. Students of grade 9 and 10 French
also extend “mille mercies” to Mme Boileau’s classes
of grade 11 French for their “carnaval d’hiver”
which included a chance to build snowmen, consume beaver tails and
“profiteroles au chocolat”, made by the students themselves.
On October 24, students of grade 9 French enjoyed an excursion to
Toronto’s Metro Zoo. Students participated in a questionnaire/scavenger
hunt, during which time they wrote about animals’ routines,
food and habitats, in French. Stay tuned for details regarding upcoming
cultural excursions for our students of French, this semester. “Bon
voyage à tout le monde”! |
